The repatriation agreement of Rohingya refugees between Myanmar and Bangladesh is deeply problematic. A UN-mandated security provision to protect the Rohingya’s safety and basic human rights is needed before the Rohingya can return to Myanmar. Otherwise, the Rohingya will be sent back to camps where they would face further danger. We need a concerted international effort to hold the Burmese military and civilian government to account and ensure that there is proper humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya currently in Bangladesh.
