We need bold action to recover from the worst economic crisis for 300 years. This means large scale investment in green jobs, a national youth corps with income guarantees and training for a million young people, and wider support for workers – including those in the care sector.
On BBC Newsnight, I spoke about the furlough scheme and urged the Government to make sure that people are not pushed off a cliff when the scheme ends. The transition to a new kind of economy will take time and we need to make sure that the job retention scheme isn’t cut off immediately at the end of October.
