The Burmese military’s genocide against the Rohingya stands as one of the greatest crimes against humanity. Five years on the Rohingya are no nearer justice as a million people have been forced from their homes, villages have been torched and women have been raped and murdered.
A generation of Rohingya have been denied an education. For these children and teenagers in the camps, education has been disrupted, sporadic or non-existent.
Today at my adjournment debate on the ‘International response to persecution and discrimination of the Rohingya in Myanmar’. I urged the government must ensure sanctions are stepped up and coordinated with other countries, more is done to protect children’s education within refugee camps and the decision to cut aid funding to Rohingya refugees is reversed.
