Many of my constituents have raised serious concerns about the proposed new Chinese embassy at the former Royal Mint site in my constituency.

Whilst I recognise the complexity of the UK’s diplomatic relationship with China, this proposal presents significant concerns regarding China’s human rights record, espionage and local disruption.

A development of this scale would cause substantial disruption to local residents and businesses, while placing additional strain on already stretched local resources and policing. The situation is particularly concerning for residents of Royal Mint Court, who face uncertainty regarding their privacy and the security of their homes.

I have raised these issues with the Government to ensure they are fully aware of the strength of local feeling.  As the process continues, it is essential that assurances are provided to the residents of Royal Mint Court and the local community is fully engaged and informed.
