This conflict has already cost many lives, with civilians caught in the crossfire and hundreds of thousands of UK nationals stranded in the region. A prolonged conflict will have catastrophic humanitarian consequences, damage the world economy, and make it even more challenging to evacuate UK nationals.
Today, I called on the Prime Minister to redouble efforts working with our allies in the EU and Middle East to bring an end to the conflict and a return to diplomatic negotiations in order to secure peace, security and the protection of civilian lives.
